This action RPG is set in a futuristic science fiction world governed by a theocratic regime and ruled by powerful mechanical beings called fal'Cie. Players control Lightning, a former soldier, who joins a resistance group after her sister is marked by a fal'Cie, leading to a shared fate that requires fulfilling the creature's task to survive. Combat features a real-time Active Time Battle system where players manage limited actions and character roles through the Paradigm system, while character progression is handled via the Crystarium, a tiered upgrade system for stats.
