A third-person shooter, *Gears of War* emphasizes tactical combat using a cover-based system where the player can take cover behind objects to avoid enemy fire. Set on the fictional planet Sera, the game follows Marcus Fenix, a soldier in the Coalition of Ordered Governments, as he battles the Locust Horde, subterranean creatures threatening humanity. The story begins after a prison attack, leading Marcus and allies on a mission to uncover the Locust’s origins and prevent their destruction of human civilization.
