This is a platform game where players control Sonic and Tails to navigate levels at high speeds, collecting rings and defeating enemies while avoiding obstacles. The story follows their attempt to stop Dr. Robotnik from relaunching the Death Egg using the Chaos Emeralds, with assistance from Knuckles, the island’s guardian. The game was developed alongside *Sonic & Knuckles* and later combined via cartridge attachment to form *Sonic 3 & Knuckles*.
